A Whole Bunch of Simple Things To Change

Category: Cool Sites,Little Things,Policy,Take Actions – Tom Harrison – 5:34 pm

Well, I have assiduously avoided mentioning Global Warming to this point. This is not because I don’t care, but because my “little” mission is to focus on how we can reduce energy consumption.

I think there’s a real danger in losing focus by getting too broad. Engaging on the environment brings in a whole raft of other issues. Many are related to energy consumption, some are not. And many environmental issues are “macro” issues that are outside of the scope of what individuals can accomplish directly.

Further, the book “End of Oil” also makes the point that while global warming is a problem, running out of energy is potentially a lot more imminent … and potentially as catastrophic (in terms of geopolitical instability). It’s hard to argue which is the bigger thing to worry about, and it doesn’t really matter.

There’s a reason: global warming is a direct result of our energy consumption. So is running out of oil.

And so, as I was watching the very funny production of “Earth To America”, which was focused on global warming, I found the site “stopglobalwarming.org”, which amongst other things have a great page with a list of things we can all do to reduce global warming. You’ll see that most of them focus on how to reduce our use of energy. And of course, there’s no coincidence.
